A well-maintained fleet of construction equipment is fundamental to a successful road contractor. From the versatile skid steer to the straightforward steel drum roller, each piece of paving equipment must be maintained for effective and safe usage. On a larger scale, the fleet must be tracked to evaluate operating cost and regulatory compliance at minimum.
With so many moving pieces to wrangle, an efficient management system is vital to smooth and safe company performance. In this field filled with innovation, Evergreen Roadworks™ eagerly pursues opportunities to level-up fleet management.
At Evergreen, we utilize fleet management software, which tracks detailed information on our fleet. Besides monitoring each machine’s usage hours and location, we gather and centralize a multitude of other data touchpoints, allowing us to efficiently operate and maintain each piece of equipment.

Tools make data tracking easy and efficient for the people in the field. But tracking data accurately is just step one. Anyone with the right hardware and software can do it. Leveraging data properly is where the game changes.
At Evergreen, we constantly keep our eyes open for ways to innovate. In this case, we saw an opportunity to leverage our data to reduce fleet downtime, save costs and ultimately achieve greater speed and agility to deliver for our customers. As a result, we are positioned to offer expedited, quality services at a competitive rate.
1. Agility. We now have increased agility and quicker response times to meet challenges and opportunities in the field.
2. Decreased Downtime. With machines continually functional and ready, our crews are more reliable than ever.
3. Increased Automation. Integrated data collection saves time and energy for field workers and drivers, allowing them to focus on their essential roles.
Our primary equipment manager, Zach Mohr, is responsible for the machine shop. He is incredibly proud of the lack of downtime the fleet experiences. He and his team have been leveraging these new tracking tools to stay on top of maintenance schedules, and to make equipment investment decisions, keeping the fleet in top condition.
While Zach is also proud of Evergreen’s growth so far, he understands that keeping up with technology is essential. Zach and his team regularly attend trade shows to scope out the latest unveilings. They also partner with industry providers like SITECH and Caterpillar, to gain training in the latest construction technology.

Fleet management is only one aspect of innovative operations. Great advantages also come from our network of partners at The Heritage Group (THG) and Heritage Construction + Materials (HC+M). Even with all the right tools, contractors still face the under-acknowledged complexities of the road construction industry. Drawing from not only our own construction knowledge, but also the experience of our diversified sister companies, we gain insights that we can implement to improve operations, maintain quality construction and a high-level of customer service.
Innovation is at the heart of Evergreen Roadwork’s approach to fleet management. Grounded in data and technology, we are achieving significant operational improvements with the backing of a shared network of companies. Our forward-thinking approach prioritizes efficiency and agility by minimizing downtime, optimizing maintenance schedules and automating documentation.
As Zach and his team exemplify, staying on top of technological advancements and fostering industry collaborations are crucial for sustaining growth and excellence.
Evergreen’s dedication to innovation goes deeper than fleet management. At the core of pavement preservation is a desire to provide better solutions that push road construction toward a long-lasting and sustainable future. Proven road treatments and pioneering methods alike are opportunities for the whole industry to innovate their approach.
