With a name like Evergreen, it comes as no surprise that Evergreen Roadworks’ efforts are focused on sustainable practices.
The core goal of Evergreen’s pavement preservation services is to extend the service life of roads, making road network maintenance sustainable for both budgets and the environment. Pavement preservation treatments bring additional benefits, producing fewer greenhouse gas emissions, conserving energy through quicker construction times and reusing natural materials. Evergreen seeks to minimize the environmental impact of its work through efficiency, transparency and carbon-conscious solutions.
A carbon footprint is the amount of greenhouse gases — most often carbon dioxide — released into the atmosphere through an entity’s operations. These gases result from burning fossil fuels for electricity, heat and transportation, as well as from the production of cement and aggregates, the asphalt mixture mixing process and more. See this study for further details.
In 2024, ClimeCo partnered with The Heritage Group (THG) to conduct a carbon footprint assessment of each business and benchmark greenhouse gas emissions. For Evergreen Roadworks, ClimeCo analyzed primary data such as utility bills and fuel usage, to determine the greenhouse gas output of Evergreen’s operations.
To establish a baseline, emissions were assessed under three categories: stationary combustion (fuel burning), mobile combustion (fuel use in vehicles) and electricity use. From this baseline, Evergreen can track the success of its initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint further.
Greenhouse gases trap heat in the atmosphere, disrupting the Earth’s radiative balance — the equilibrium between the energy the planet emits and receives from the sun. This disruption leads to local and global changes in climate and weather patterns. Extensive evidence has linked human activity to the Earth’s temperature increase since the early 1900s (source).
Here, there is an opportunity to leave the world in better shape for future generations.
The environmental impact of pavement preservation services has been widely recognized and measured across the industry. This approach to road management is more sustainable for budgets and the planet. The following treatments are applied throughout the lifespan of pavement, preventing premature maintenance and repairs and adding years of life to roadways:

Additionally, recycling treatments reuse existing materials and pave at lower temperatures, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while maintaining cost-effectiveness and high quality:

At Evergreen we will continue to do our part to assess and improve our baseline carbon emissions. Along the way, we offer our customers an alternative approach through optimal sustainable paving solutions. By extending road life through pavement preservation, we can build a world that is financially and environmentally sustainable, setting up future generations for success.
